Open Questions

Product questions that are genuinely still open as of early October 2026. Each is recorded with what is settled around it, so a developer knows where the edges are. Treat nothing here as decided.

Retiring the Classic engine

Question	What is settled around it
Learner records on retired courses — when a Classic course is retired, should its grades be exported, and should its learners' attempts be kept or removed?	Classic courses will be retired and rebuilt on the Lead Designer. Where a course is linked to Moodle, the existing grade columns stay in Moodle and the rebuilt course's milestones add new ones.
Designed but never produced — should Classic courses that only reached the design stage be converted to the Lead Designer, or deleted and started again?	New courses are created on the Lead Designer only.
Features with no equivalent — should any older lesson features return in a new form (learner text highlighting, a predict-then-show-back moment, illustrated visuals)?	They are not part of the Lesson Page Standard and disappear with Classic unless a decision brings them back.
The interim state — until a Classic course is retired, is a plain "retired engine" state in Studio acceptable?	Classic authoring is already removed from Studio.

Authoring

Question	What is settled around it
Uncovered source material — every lesson plan leaves some in-scope points in the sources unplanned. Should Validation & Review show that list to the subject expert, and how?	The Lead Designer sizes each plan to the lesson calendar; "Fill this gap" covers the opposite case, where sources are thin.

Registration

Question	What is settled around it
What Registration sees — should the Registration role see milestone results, or progress only?	Registration works cases and learner messages at the Registration desk.
"Active" learners — are 7, 14 and 30 days the right windows, and how far back should trends look (four weeks, a term)?	The desk uses one definition of activity everywhere — active, slowing down, quiet and stopped — based on real learning work, not logins.
